Massage, bodywork & somatics therapy in Leith

A specialist, queer-owned and neuro-affirming studio working at the intersection of therapeutic touch and somatic practice. A trauma-informed, inclusive space for rest, repair, and reconnection.

My ethos

Olive Tree Therapies takes its name from a tree deeply rooted in my family and cultural heritage. Across the Mediterranean, olive trees stand as symbols of resilience, peace, and wisdom: qualities I hope you can reconnect with during your time here. This is a space to pause, breathe, and return to yourself; a sanctuary where you can rest, reconnect and be cared for.

As a queer-owned, GSRD/LGBTQI+ and neurodivergent affirming practice, Olive Tree Therapies is founded on an actively anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and person-centred approach to healing. Every session aims to honour the entirety of your being; that means your whole story, your soma, and your lived experience. My intention is to nurture safeness, compassion, and connection, so you can explore your own capacity for restoration and growth in an environment grounded in respect, equity, and care.

Who this space might be for

People find their way to Olive Tree Therapies from all kinds of places and arrive here via different paths. You might recognise yourself in one or more of these:

You're queer, trans, or non-binary

This is a queer-owned, actively LGBTQI+ and GSRD-affirming practice. You won't need to explain yourself, qualify your identity, or navigate a space that wasn't built with you in mind. Whether you're seeking scar care after top surgery or mastectomy, nervous system support, or simply a bodyworker you can trust – you're welcome here exactly as you are.

You're neurodivergent
If you're autistic, ADHD, or otherwise neuro-spicy, sessions are designed to be adaptable to your sensory needs, communication preferences, and the way your nervous system works. We'll always agree in advance on how you'd like to communicate during a session, and nothing about the way you're wired will be treated as a problem to manage.

You're carrying grief or bereavement
My background before training as a bodyworker was over twelve years working in complex bereavement and suicide prevention. I worked with Cruse Bereavement Care, Samaritans, Rethink Mental Illness, and NHS Scotland. Grief lives in the body as much as the mind (they are the same!), and bodywork can offer a form of support that words sometimes can't reach. If you want to talk during your session, you're welcome to. If you'd prefer silence, that's equally held.

You're living with chronic pain or a long-term condition
Whether you're managing fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, hypermobility, post-surgical recovery, or another long-term condition, the work here is slow, communicative, and always responsive to what your body can actually receive on a given day. Deep pressure doesn't mean pain, and rest is a legitimate therapeutic goal.

You've experienced trauma – including medical trauma
If touch has felt complicated, unsafe, or simply unfamiliar (whether that's because of trauma, medical experiences, sensory sensitivity, or something else) sessions here are fully consent-led, paced entirely by you, and adaptable at any point. An Introduction to Embodied Touch session is available for those who are new to bodywork or rebuilding their relationship with touch.

You want to reconnect with your body
Whether you're living with a scar that feels unfamiliar, navigating a complicated relationship with your body, or simply feeling disconnected from physical sensation after illness, stress, or trauma, then this is a space to gently rebuild that relationship. Sessions are paced entirely by you, fully consent-led, and designed to support a renewed sense of safety, presence, and connection in your own skin.

You're going through cancer treatment or recovery
I offer specialist oncology massage for those currently in treatment or recovering from cancer, adapted carefully to your stage of treatment, your energy, and your body's needs. Sessions are a space to receive care, rest, and feel held during what can be an exhausting and isolating time.

You're simply exhausted and need to slow down
You don't need a medical diagnosis or a reason. Sometimes the most important thing is rest: proper, deep, unhurried rest. You're welcome here for that too.

You want a seriously good massage
You train hard, work physically, or simply know your body well enough to know what it needs. You're not looking for therapy – you want skilled, deep, responsive bodywork from someone who genuinely knows their craft. With training across deep tissue, sports massage, Thai techniques, Ayurvedic methods, and more, I bring the same level of attention and skill to a post-gym session as I do to anything else. You don't need a reason beyond wanting to feel better in your body.

About me

My name is André (he/they). I'm an integrative therapist and bodyworker with six years of dedicated practice, based at my studio in Leith, Edinburgh.

My work sits at the intersection of therapeutic touch and somatic practice, drawing on Western massage, Thai massage, Ayurvedic massage, somatic trauma therapy, and energy work. Underpinning all of it is my background in mental health: twelve years working in bereavement support and suicide prevention/post-vention across the charity sector and NHS Scotland, including roles with Cruse Bereavement Care, Samaritans, and Rethink Mental Illness.

That experience shapes how I hold a session. It means I'm trained to be with difficulty - not just physical tension, but grief, trauma, emotions, and the things that don't always have words. My intention in every session is to offer a grounded, non-judgmental presence, whatever you bring through the door.

What this means for your session

Training tells you what I know. Experience tells you how I work.

What I bring to a session isn't just a set of techniques – it's the ability to adapt my approach to meet your needs and goals, communicate effectively, read body language moment to moment, and hold whatever arises with steadiness and care. Whether your session is primarily body-focused, primarily emotional/spiritual, or somewhere in between, my aim is always the same: to offer you a space where you feel as safe as possible, seen, heard and supported. I work in a way that is consent-led, person-centred, where your safety and capacity are my top priority.
