Integrative massage & bodywork

No two sessions are the same here, and that's by design!

I'm André (he/they), an integrative therapist and bodyworker with six years of dedicated practice, based at my studio in Leith, Edinburgh. My work sits at the intersection of therapeutic touch and somatic practice, shaped by training across Western massage, Thai massage, Ayurveda, and somatic trauma therapy, alongside over twelve years working in complex bereavement and front-line mental health support.

Rather than offering a fixed menu of treatments, I draw on a broad range of techniques and modalities: Swedish, deep tissue, aromatherapy, sports (level 3) massage, lymphatic drainage, Ayurvedic methods, somatic touch, and elements of Thai massage and Reiki – and blend them according to what you need, on the day, in the room.

This means you don't need to know which modality to choose before you arrive. Simply choose the length of session that works for you – 30, 60, 90, or 120 minutes – and we'll shape the session together once you're here. You just need to feel into what you need and want.

What brings people here

Most people arrive to an integrative massage & bodywork session with one of the following:

Tension, pain, or physical discomfort

Whether you're carrying chronic neck and shoulder tension, lower back pain, post-exercise soreness, or the kind of deep muscular fatigue that doesn't seem to shift, bodywork can help. I use a combination of techniques, including deep tissue work, sports massage, trigger point methods, fire cupping, and Thai-informed stretching to address what's happening in your body without causing more stress to your nervous system in the process. Deep pressure doesn't mean pain. My approach is slow, communicative, and responsive to what your body can actually receive on a given day.

Stress, burnout, or the need to slow down

Sometimes the most important thing a body can do is rest: properly, deeply, and without the sense that you need to be doing something more productive. If you're exhausted, overwhelmed, or simply haven't felt at ease in your body for a while, a session focused on rest and nervous system healing can make a meaningful difference. I might draw on slow, Swedish massage, warm Ayurvedic oils, gentle aromatherapy essential oils, or manual lymphatic drainage techniques.

Emotional sharing & active listening

Sometimes what we need most is both: to be held, and to be heard.

The Active Listening Massage is a session that weaves therapeutic bodywork with the opportunity to share freely what's on your mind or what you haven't had space to say. There is no agenda, no advice, no judgement. Just attentive presence alongside skilled touch that supports your body to soften as you speak.

The session is guided entirely by you. You might talk throughout, or find that words come and go between stretches of comfortable silence. All of that is welcome.

This approach draws on over twelve years of experience in therapeutic active listening, including work with Samaritans, Cruse Bereavement Care, Rethink Mental Illness, and NHS Scotland. Please refer to my Terms & Conditions for details around confidentiality and scope of practice.

Recovery, trauma, or cancer treatment

If you've had experiences that make touch feel complicated (whether that's trauma, cancer treatment, or sensory sensitivity), this practice is built with you in mind. Sessions can be fully adapted for those currently in or recovering from cancer treatment, taking into account your medical history, energy levels, and any areas that need particular care. Sessions are fully consent-led, paced by you, and always adaptable.

Nervous about massage, or new to bodywork?

If you've never had a massage before, feel anxious about touch, or simply don't know where to start, the Introduction to Embodied Touch session is designed to meet you exactly where you are.

We begin with a conversation about what's bringing you here, what you're hoping for, and any boundaries you'd like me to know about from the outset. From there, we move at your pace. You might choose to remain fully clothed, to receive touch only on areas that don't involve direct skin contact, or to begin with something simple like a hand or foot massage. Both oil-based and dry massage options are available, and nothing happens that you haven't agreed to first.

Scar care & integration

I offer dedicated Scar Care & Integration sessions using evidence-based techniques for tissue healing, working with both the physical and emotional dimensions that scars often have. Whether your scar is recent or years old, we'll work at a pace that feels right for your body and your readiness.

People come with scarring related to surgery, burns, top surgery, mastectomy, reconstruction, amputation, implants, radiotherapy, and more. Common presentations include pain, pulling, numbness, hypersensitivity, reduced movement, or simply feeling disconnected from that part of the body.

Newer scars (under six weeks old) are also welcome. In these cases, work is done around rather than directly on the scar to support tissue, nervous system, and emotional integration.

I completed specialist training in Therapeutic Approaches for Scar Tissue Management with in-touch Education, Edinburgh (2026).

A specific area or focus in mind

Sometimes you already know exactly what you want! It might be a foot massage, a session focussed on back, neck & shoulders, an Indian head & face massage, work on one particular area, or simply a longer session to properly unwind. That's equally welcome here; just let me know on the day and we'll build the session around it.

The techniques & modalities I might draw on

Depending on what you bring to a session, I may use a combination of the below modalities and techniques:

    •    Swedish massage — slow, gliding strokes with oil; deeply relaxing, nervous-system regulating

    •    Deep tissue massage — sustained, focused pressure for muscular release; always calibrated to what your body can comfortably receive

    •    Sports massage — oily, targeted work supporting injury prevention, rehabilitation, and athletic recovery

    •    Clinical Aromatherapy — warm oil infused with intentionally selected organic, therapeutic grade, essential oils

    •    Ayurvedic massage techniques — drawing from Ayurvedic training in Kannur, India, including medicated oils such as Narayan, Neelibhringadi, Brahmi and Karpooradi

    •    Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) — featherlight, rhythmic touch for those who prefer minimal pressure or prefer light touch

    •    Ayurvedic Indian head & face massage — incorporating 'marma' points from traditional Indian medicine; particularly useful for headaches, overthinking, brain fog, and disrupted sleep

    •    Traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurvedic and Thai trigger points

    •    Thai massage techniques — assisted stretching, rocking and compressions drawn from my Thai massage training; often blended into oil-based sessions, as appropriate

    •    Somatic touch — body-led, sensation-focused contact informed by PolyVagal theory and the FeltSense

    •    Energy work / Reiki — available as a gentle add-on within any session, at no extra cost, where appropriate and with your consent

Things you can add to your massage & bodywork session

Making it work for you

You are in charge of what we focus on – which areas of the body we work with, the pressure, the pace, and the overall shape of the session. You can choose where we begin and where we end, and we can adjust or change direction at any point. The space can be adapted to your preferences too: music, lighting, temperature, electric blanket if you'd like one. Before we start, we'll always agree on the best way to communicate during the treatment itself.

I have a range of pillows, cushions, and blankets (including a weighted blanket option) to support your comfort. You're also welcome to bring any objects that help you feel grounded or at ease.

Frequently asked questions - FAQs

What should I book? I don’t know which treatment to choose.

That’s completely normal and honestly, it’s not something you need to figure out before you arrive. Just choose the length of session that works for you (30, 60, 90, or 120 minutes) and we’ll shape the session together once you’re here. I’ll ask you a few questions and we’ll take it from there.

What’s the difference between your sessions and a regular massage?

The main difference is that I don’t work from a fixed protocol and also my background in person-centred care and mental health. Rather than applying the same sequence every time, I work responsively, combining techniques according to what your body needs on that particular day, which may also shift during the session itself. Every treatment is genuinely bespoke.

Is this suitable for me if I have trauma or a mental health history?

Yes. The practice is built on a trauma-informed, person-centred foundation. I have over twelve years of experience in front-line mental health and bereavement support, and my bodywork training integrates somatic and PolyVagal-informed approaches. If you have particular needs or concerns, you’re welcome to get in touch before booking. Please note that while I can offer active listening within sessions, I am not a counsellor or psychotherapist.

Do you offer sessions for people who are nervous about touch?

Absolutely! The Introduction to Embodied Touch session is designed for exactly this. We begin with a conversation, move at your pace, and you remain in full control throughout. Fully clothed options are available.

Can I book for a specific condition?

Yes. People come to me with chronic pain, DOMS, post-surgical recovery, cancer treatment, bereavement, burnout, neurodivergence, and more. If you’d like to discuss whether what I offer is right for your situation, please get in touch.
